Want to visit?

From the Sunday Lifestyle section of the Philippine Daily Inquirer (page F2, 01 May 2005):

Anilao is over 80 kilometers south of Manila, a two-and-a-half-hour ride if traffic is light to moderate. Take Exit 50 (to Calamba, Laguna) of the South Expressway, passing through the new Star (Santo Tomas - Lipa) Tollway, and then on to Cuenca, Alitagtag and Bauan.

For visitors staying in the city, it is ideal to get a local familiar with both Manila and Batangas to drive there and back again. That way, you don’t have to worry about the scarcity of public transportation at night.

Another aspect to consider is the disparity of rates among diving resorts. Planet Dive is one of the more affordable resorts in the area. A daytrip dive package costs 1,450 pesos (roughly US $27) per person. A non-diver can enjoy a day of snorkeling for only 700+ pesos (or around US $13). If you plan to stay overnight, air-conditioned cottages with verandas facing the sea are available for about 2,500 pesos (roughly US $45) where you can avail of meals and two boat dives a day for two days with a Dive Master. Planet Dive is perfect for weekend scuba divers from the city, who want to get in a few hours of diving before going back home at the end of the day.

The dive package rates for Eagle Point Resort (a rather popular resort among visitors from other countries), on the other hand, are higher ranging from $65 (with own gear) to $95 (with rental gear). Overnight stays in air-conditioned cottages are also available, ranging from 5,280 pesos (about US $96) per person for single occupancy to 2,350 pesos (about US $43) per person for quadruple occupancy. Rates are inversely proportional to the number of people in the group; the more people/divers in the group, the lesser the individual cost. Eagle Point is more suited for visitors who plan to do more than scuba dive. Accommodations are luxurious and they offer a day tour package for 1,400 pesos (about US $25) per person.

Whether you want a weeklong vacation where you can scuba dive one day and get a guided tour of the area the next or just get in a weekend of diving and driving back to the city before Monday rolls around, accomplishing all your diving needs in Anilao has never been easier. End of Article
