Much of the Philippines’ charm lies underwater. Her thriving marine life makes for usual and unusual creatures bursting with brilliant colors in all sizes and shapes, perfect for underwater exploration. For this reason, scuba diving has become an extremely popular sport, engaged with an almost religious fervor by locals and foreigners alike, especially during summers. Recent years has seen several diving resorts popping up in Puerto Galera, Boracay, Coron, Busuanga, Tubbataha, Apo Reef, Palawan, and many more.

Anilao, Batangas is one the more popular places for these resorts. Its accessibility from a major city, being only a two- or three-hour drive from Manila, gives it a distinct advantage over far-flung provinces. Weekend scuba divers, who do not have the leisure of taking long vacations away from their day jobs, swarm to these resorts and were able to trudge back home by end of the day.
