Vacation in the Philippines

Friday, July 1st, 2005 by Myles

The airport seemed like a megalithic bathroom, with its janitorial-fresh aroma, pale yellow tiled walls, and green steeped corridors. We headed into the front lobbies near the baggage checkpoints and ticket counters where my mom scoured the proximity for her brother, Uncle Bhoy.

In The Red

“You Americans will look at us with fear and then, you will respect us.” I do not totally agree with those two statements. The United States already fears China. How can anyone not fear a country that has one-sixth of the world’s population?

Taiwan Tensions

Wednesday, June 1st, 2005 by Tif

Case in point: the Taiwan – China dilemma. The relationship between the two countries is so ambiguous at the moment, and politicians and citizens alike are quite content to leave it that way, putting it off ‘til tomorrow.

Home Sweet Home: A Review of “Unleashed”

Wednesday, June 1st, 2005 by Jef Catapang

As it stands, however, “Unleashed” serves its purpose in describing the central idea of the film. Sunday, May 1st, 2005 by Jef Catapang

I’ve tried to write this review of Chanwook Park’s Oldboy several times already. (You can ask my editor about how long it took me to finally hand this in.) But no matter what I talk about I can’t seem to get at the core of the movie’s appeal. I can’t seem to say exactly what I want to say.

Once You’ve Seen One Pagoda

“Once you’ve seen one pagoda, you’ve seen them all,” said one Polish backpacker I met outside the walls of the Forbidden City in Beijing.

Cherry Blossom Festival

Sunday, May 1st, 2005 by Ben

The San Francisco Cherry Blossom Festival began in 1967 as a community reaction to the city’s urban redevelopment in the 1960’s. What started out as a means to keep the Japanese-American community connected to its motherland has grown into one of Northern California’s most colorful and renowned celebrations of Asian culture.
